The barn owl is the most widely distributed species of owl in the world and one of the most widespread of all species of birds, being found almost everywhere. With heart-shaped face, buff back and wings and pure white underparts, the barn owl is a distinctive and much-loved countryside bird. Mandi has painted these two barn owls with great precision and a steady hand, she often paints onto real feathers but in this painting she has painted the feathers.

Mandi Baykaa-Murray

Mandi, A.K.A. ‘The Feather Lady’ is an artist inspired by the natural world and is best known for her exquisite paintings of birds on real, moulted feathers.

Inspiration comes from the Birds of Prey she was fortunate to work with and care for at a falconry centre near her home in North Somerset and more recently, the wildlife she encounters on her daily walks with her dog.

Mandi has developed her working processes using many different types of feathers, most of which she collects on her walks and many which her friends and followers collect for her. She particularly enjoys the challenge of painting on extremely fluffy feathers - a technique she has been perfecting for some time now.

Mandi has won numerous awards for her paintings and is proud to be represented by several galleries throughout the UK, selling regularly to collectors in both the UK and Internationally. Mandi’s website tells you where and when she will be exhibiting, under ‘Feathers On Tour’.
