Description
The Old Exe Bridge is a ruined medieval arch bridge in Exeter. Construction of the bridge began in 1190, and was completed by 1214. The bridge is the oldest surviving bridge of its size in England and the oldest bridge in Britain with a chapel still on it. If you live or have lived in Exeter you will know it well.
Christine McLoughlin
Born and raised on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire. Trained as a school teacher at Rolle Ladies College in Exmouth. Employed by the RAF to teach children of British Service families in Aden, South Yemen. While there married an Army Officer Arabist. Lived and travelled in a variety of Arab countries for 25 years, combining teaching, painting and raising a family. In Dubai set up business with French partner selling Limited Edition prints to the rapidly expanding community.
On return to London completed intensive correspondence course in Interior Design, developing a particular interest in architectural subjects. Moved to a Devon village, cycled around the area painting rural scenes. In year 2000 went to live in Exeter beside the Cathedral. The amazing range of building styles within the city inspired me to concentrate solely on detailed architectural work.
During these years, continued to travel extensively overseas filling dozens of sketch books with impressions of the varied scenes from St Petersburg to Istanbul and beyond.
