I worked for many years as an architect and, alongside that, continued my boyhood passion for photography through the medium of architectural photography for exhibitions and published work.
In recent years I have become better known for my landscape and townscape photography, mostly in the UK, but with extensive portfolios of townscape and architecture abroad. I have exhibited at well known regional venues such as the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol, and through my membership of the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Art. I also exhibit widely in local venues in my home area of South Devon.
During the last decade I have begun to focus in on the partially abstract details of the world around me, shaping specific themed projects such as ‘Theatre of Light’, ‘Treescapes’, and ‘Naturally Abstract’: often looking at seldom-noticed miniature landscapes of great beauty. Abstraction increasingly tends to flow back into my photography from my parallel practice as a painter.
The longevity of printed photographic works was once a big issue in the art world. However, archival or museum grade printing has ended that debate, with prints of digital photographs now exhibited at major arts venues worldwide, and collected at high values by connoisseurs. My work is printed to these standards using natural pigment inks and acid-free cotton rag papers by renowned fine art paper makers. My print runs are usually a limited edition of 5, occasionally limited further by agreement and negotiation with buyers to assert unique value.
